“Belgisch Internet Register”

Today I received a letter on behalf of my company of the German company DAD GmbH regarding the “Belgisch Internet Register”. Each year we can expect such a letter and DAD GmbH gets it’s information from the WHOIS system which is a direct violation of the rules from ICANN.

This mailing is a scam with the intention to get your money. The website Belgisch Internet Register can’t be found and there is no TLD in the letter present. The letter also don’t mention anything where your publication will be visible for the public. You need to pay € 958 per year for the next three years when you sign the contract.

More information (in Dutch) can be found at: http://www.isoc.be/news.php?sect=1&ID=31.

  1. I got my letter today September 3rd 2008.
    An absolute scam.
I did a lookup with whois, and it does list DAD as the owner. For me the website does come up, but is totally useless.
It appears that they own about 23 other websites.
They send out a letter where you can make corrections to the data they have. It appears they put in 2 or 3 mistakes on purpose, so you will be tempted to correct the data.
Please do not sign the letter, it is a contract and will cost you 958 EUR/year
